He is tired, but before he goes into the cabin and the lone bed, he will see if there is any simple act of farming he can perform around this farm.  Could be as simple as picking up a liftable-sized stone and carrying it off the field.  Or picking up a hoe, and using it to pry a weed out of the field, as one presumably does with hoes.
